Project Description

Scott Allen –  Vibes

 

As a percussionist and multi-instrumentalist, Scott has enjoyed many years of diverse musical adventures. A native of Elkhart, he began his percussion training (at the age of five) with legendary teacher Allean Trafford.  Through Mrs. Trafford, he also studied several years with Chicago percussionist Bobby Christian (session musician/Ludwig clinician). Scott graduated from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music with a Jazz Performance Degree.  While at Cincinnati, he had the opportunity to study with Allen Otte (founder of Black Earth and Cincinnati Percussion Group), and John Von Ohlen (Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, Blue Wisp Big Band).  Scott has always kept active in all styles of music. He has also composed and recorded music for radio, TV and film projects, including Walt Disney on Ice, Ringling Brothers, Sears and Van Doren. As worship director, Scott has the privilege of composing, arranging and coordinating services at River Oaks Community Church. Currently, he is finishing an album project that features his compositions for percussion. He has also been featured in a recent series of music videos: vimeo.com/user9140738.

 

Valparaiso Faculty Trio

 

Jeffrey C. Brown – Drums

 

Jeff is the instructor of percussion and coordinator of jazz studies at Valparaiso University. Brown is a founding member of the Valparaiso University Faculty Jazz Trio. The trio is one of the longest-affiliated jazz college chamber ensembles in the world and has recorded and/or performed with many leading jazz musicians, including James Moody, Art Farmer, Jimmy Heath, Randy Brecker, Frank Foster, Etta Jones, Clark Terry and George Coleman. He has also co-produced the Valparaiso University Union Jazz Festival for the past 25 years.

 

Roger L. Harris – Piano

 

Roger is well known in the Chicago music scene as a versatile player, arranger and composer. He began playing throughout Chicago professionally at the early age of 13. Besides being on the faculty at Valpo, he is also a jazz mentor and instructor for the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic, Jazz Institute of Chicago, After School Matters, and The American Conservatory of Music.

 

Darrel Tidaback – Bass

 

Besides being a gifted bassist, Darrel served ten years as the director of the IUSB Jazz ensemble.  He has also been on the music faculty at Notre Dame University. In addition to teaching and playing, he’s an accomplished arranger and composer.
