Lucia Sarmiento is a young Peruvian Saxophonist breaking through the Minneapolis music scene with a huge sound and effervescent personality.
Growing up in South America, and living in the US for the past 6 years, Lucia has been exposed to a broad variety of rhythms and styles of music, but her passion has always been jazz and 80’s fusion.
Her music is the expression of a diverse musical upbringing, fused with her own sensibility for angular, yet beautiful melodies. After graduating college in 2017, she has made a name for herself in the Minneapolis music scene as a versatile player, touring with the fusion/funk band New Sound Underground and playing with drummer Eric Kamau Gravatt (Weather Report, Joe Henderson). As an educator, Lucia is often invited to do clinics regionally as well as in her hometown Peru. This past January, she held a two day long saxophone workshop in Piura, where people traveled from all over the country to attend.
Lucia is currently working on her debut full-length album, which will come out at the end of 2020.
