Emma Hedrick is a 7-time DownBeat award-winning, vocalist, composer, and arranger. In Summer 2024, Emma will finish her Master’s degree at the Royal Conservatoire in the Hague, Netherlands. The Indianapolis native received her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Jazz Performance, as the Presser Scholar, from the Frost School of Music, University of Miami. In 2023, Emma’s composition was recently awarded with Honorable Mention in the Jazz Education Network’s Young Composer Showcase. In 2019, Emma was a finalist in the International Ella Fitzgerald Vocal Competition where she placed 3rd. Emma has headlined at various venues including the St. Petersburg Jazz Festival (FL), Next Con at Indy Jazzfest, and The Jazz Kitchen. She has also had the honor of performing in the Elkhart Jazz Festival, Telluride Jazz Festival, as a part of the Aspen JAS Academy directed by Christian McBride, and in the Jong Metropole summer tour of the Netherlands and Germany directed by Chris Walden. Emma aspires to take her audiences through the story of each song she sings and strives to use the voice in traditional and nontraditional ways.
Emma’s band is created from the brightest up-and-coming talent in the United States with members from across the country. She is honored to share the stage with creative musicians who respect the art form and who all have distinctive perspectives adding to the music. Their set is a fresh take on favorite standards full of new interpretations paired with original compositions. Emma’s original music is rooted in the harmony and style of jazz tradition blended with attentiveness to lyric and melody from the singer-songwriter genre.
